On the 8th September the Little sisters celebrated 70 years since their foundation by Little sister Magdeleine of Jesus in 1939.

Not only was there a big celebration in Tre Fontane, Rome, but also in all the small Communities all over the world.

When forwarding on to us this news of a new community opening in Bankilare not far from the border of Niger with Burkina Faso and Mali, Daniela Chiara, the Regional, writes from Niamey :

‘ I want you to know that all that has happened here has been a gift from God and that together with the Little sisters who went to Bankilare I am profoundly happy. You must know too how it is all so very fragile! We try to follow the signs and to live each day as it comes with all our love, leaving the future in the hands of  the Master. The Little sisters of Jesus in the Cameroons.The history of a friendship with the Bagyeli

This is the story of the arrival of the Little sisters in Bipindi in 1952 and of their friendship with the Bagyeli people of the forest to this day.

Having the true needs of their friends at heart after 46 years the Little sisters left Bipindi for Kribi and now Ngovayang.

When the Bagyeli went to Douala in 1985 to welcome Pope John Paul II they sang this wonderful song:

‘If the Bagyeli have heard the Word of God they cannot move backwards but only forwards and so have a wonderful place at God's side.’  read more »

Manenberg, Capetown

ManenbergManenbergThe Communities of the Little sisters in South Africa started in Capetown, in District Six, a neighbourhood where originally people of all backgrounds grew up and lived together. During apartheid this beautiful neighbourhood was knocked down and rebuilt. It was declared a a neighbourhood for white people only and all the other residents were rehoused in poor areas.
The Little sisters were given a house in Manenberg, a particularly lively neighbourhood where they were warmly welcomed. It's people are its wealth!  read more »
