I don't want to betray my children

CdF face 1
I don't want to betray my children; I don't want to fail to do the necessary for Jesus, living on in his members. It's Jesus who is in this unhappy situation. 'Whatever you do to one of these little ones, you do to me.' I don't want to be a bad shepherd or a dumb watch-dog. I'm afraid of sacrificing Jesus for a quiet life and a strong taste for tranquility, for my cowardice and natural shyness.

It takes forcefulness to defend the weak

CdF face 1
There is one case when we must resist evil forcefully. It is when it is not a case of defending ourselves but of protecting others. It takes forcefulness to defend the weak and the innocent when their oppressors wrong them. The spirit of peace is not a spirit of weakness but a spirit of strength.

Does my presence do any good here?

CdF face 1

This peace is the one your love gives

CdF face 1
What is this peace, different from that which the world gives? This peace is the one your love gives ... a peace greater than suffering, not a peace without war, but a peace in spite of war, during war, above war, the peace of the soul, having, through love, its whole life in heaven and thus enjoying the peace of heaven in spite of everything which may happen on earth around it and against it.

The suffering members of Jesus’ body

CdF face 1
Have a love that goes with special preference towards the humble and the poor, remembering that it is directly to Jesus that the smallest act of kindness and love is addressed when it is done to the least among his brothers and sisters. Welcome them with respect and love, be all the more considerate towards them, for they are the suffering members of Jesus’ body.
