My first year with the Little Sisters in Nigeria Preparing cassava is a long job and we all help
I am very happy to have the privilege of writing something to the little sisters throughout the world, even if I have only been in the community for a year. Candidates are allowed to be themselves without being tied with unnecessary laws and rules. In daily life there is no difference between those in formation and professed sisters. We live together, eat together, do everything together. As soon as you join the congregation you are given the opportunity of joining in praying the office. That is to say that from the day you join you are fully accepted. Friends little and big!
The little sisters relate to people accepting them as they are, giving them attention wherever they are, even on the road or in the house, no matter the time of day or what they are doing. This is really a very big challenge for me as I strive to live the ideal of the community which can only be achieved by the grace of God and the intercession of our Blessed Lady. As far as formation is concerned, each one is helped individually to grow spiritually. Through the help of the Little sisters I have discovered the riches of God's love in the history of my life. I am now a ‘thanksgiving’ person. My spiritual life has grown and my relationship with people is more loving. I discovered God's love not only in my life history but also in my everyday experiences. We also have chickens
I am happy that I am being helped to increase my knowledge of God in the Scriptures and to make the Bible my handbook for daily living. We are also taught about spiritual childhood and the mystery of the Incarnation and how the Infant Jesus has been so important in the life of the Community from the earliest days of the foundation. Picking mangoes
I have discovered different ways of praying and about ‘lectio divina’. I have learned to relate the psalms to situations in my life. We were also taught the meaning of commitment and what prevents us from giving our life to others. Ifechukwu and her child
I want to share just one experience of being open to others. The Little sisters met a widow with five boys and a girl in a neighbouring village. Their father had built a house but died before finishing the roof. His wife could not afford to complete the building so they all lived in one room covered with raffia leaves. The little sisters shared this sad situation with friends who agreed to help the family. They were so happy that they were almost ill with joy!! Working as a team in the cassava field!
