About 'the New Evangelisation'

-Hervé has just returned from Rome where he attended the biannual meeting of the General Superiors . Here is what he shared with us :

« As a framework for the next Synod on “the new evangelisation”, we were called upon as the Union of General Superiors to reflect on the particular contribution of the consecrated life to the new evangelisation and to prepare our response to the Lineamenta preparing for the Synod. I was struck by the coming together of our feelings as religious brethren. We found very ambiguous the very concept of “new evangelisation” as being able to produce a strategy for the recovery of the Church , for the reconquest of the world for Christ, in which, moreover, a large part of the world is not involved: how can one speak of a new evangelisation, where there has never been any evangelisation?!...

Our response is that if it is new today, it is because it is no longer Eurocentric because the geography of the Church has changed. There must now be a new way of being present in the world and of understanding it by accompanying it in its questions, its searching and its expectations in respect of different backgrounds,… On the other hand evangelisation should be considered in a more ecumenical way, because it is with all Christians that we are responsible for proclaiming Christ as the Good News for our time, and this should be done with a great opening of interreligious dialogue.

For us, it is about, through our lives, making visible and credible the Gospel as the Good News centred on the mystery of the Incarnation, which means first of all allowing ourselves to be evangelised: God wanted to become our brother living amongst us! Living fraternity amongst oursleves and with those around us, in a search for the Kingdom of God which is already here amongst us and again making it come about, attentive in the routine of our daily life, to the dignity of each human person too often ridiculed by the many shackles which alienate him , present at borders as brothers so that nobody is excluded …

I believe that each one of us can make these concerns his own which challenge us as little brothers of The One who has loved us to the end so that we have all Life, and Life in abundance which must shine through our everyday life: to live simply and completely this Good News from day to day!...
