Continuing our loop, we stopped for Mass and lunch in El-Goléa, the town to which Br. Charles’s remains, having been buried in Tamanrasset in 1916, were transferred in 1929, into an uncharacteristically grand marble sarcophagus. Next to the cemetery, on the northern edge of the oasis, is St. Joseph’s Church, built in 1938 and today served by an elderly White Father, two Congolese Sisters and a faithful Muslim caretaker.
