For you, who am I?

Jesus our brother

I believe in Jesus our brother I heard him say this in the synagogue in Nazareth:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me so that I may proclaim 'Good News to the poor; deliverance to captives, sight to the blind; liberation to the oppressed; a year of the Lord's favour for all'. And today this is being fulfilled, for you!"
His language is very strong: how can he imply the Kingdom that is coming is being fulfilled in himself? Isn't he one of us, from Nazareth, the son of Joseph and Mary?

I followed him in order to try to understand what the Kingdom is like. He touches lepers; he welcomes sinners, he re-integrates those possessed by demons; a woman with a bad reputation embraces his feet; and he even gives a foreign woman what she wants and praises her faith. He also granted the centurion's request, this member of an occupying power, and he went to the home of Zacchaeus, that exploiter of the people... Wherever people are excluded, wherever they are despised, that is where he is found. He explains by saying,
"I have not come for those who are well, but for the sick. My Father does not want even one of these little ones, who are my sisters, my brothers, to be lost."

I surprised him during his nights of prayer and I have heard him speaking of his Father: The Kingdom is the Kingdom of his Father.
"Have I been with you so long, and you have not known me? Whoever welcomes me, welcomes the Father who sent me. Whoever does the will of my Father is my mother, brother, sister. So you will say, 'Our Father, who is in heaven'."

When he was placed on the level of evil-doers, definitively excluded on pain of death, I was also there, watching from afar. Who was still thinking of the Kingdom on that day? He was erased from the list of the living:
"Not my will, but yours be done. Father, forgive them, they know not what they do. Why have you abandoned me?"
But another excluded person who still believed in it, gave the only word of consolation,
"Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom".

He brought me back to life from my shame and fear when he sent Mary Magdalene:
"Go and find my brothers, and tell them that I am going up to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God." "My brothers..."
He breathed his Spirit on us; then I began to understand what the Elders had said:
"After having spoken in former times through the prophets, he has spoken in our times through his Son. No one has ever seen God; it is the only Son who is in the Father's heart who has made him known, and revealed his plan to us: he has predestined us to become images of his Son, so that he might be the oldest of many brothers. The Word was with God and the Word made himself brother."

I believe in Jesus, our brother

And I believe that he calls me to become a brother, also.
