Jesus Caritas

Be loving, gentle, humble, with all human-beings. This is what we have learned from Jesus, not to be aggressive towards anyone. Jesus taught us to go out like lambs among wolves.

We must love people as Jesus loved them and since that is what his name ‘Jesus Saviour’ means, we like him, must make the salvation of all people the work of our life. It is by loving people that we learn to love God.

The evangelisation that I am called to live is not through the word but through the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, the offering of the sacrifice of the Mass. It is through prayer and penance and the practice of the Gospel virtues - love, fraternal and universal love, sharing even my last mouthful of bread with every poor person, with every visitor, every stranger, and welcoming each person as a beloved brother or sister.

I love our Lord and cannot bear to lead a life other than the one he led. I cannot conceive of love that does not include a need, a compelling need of resembling him and moulding my life on his.

I want all the people here, Christians, Muslims, Jews, non-believers, to look on me as their brother, the universal brother. They begin to call my house ‘the fraternity’ and this makes me happy.

Near the end of his life, Brother Charles said: I think that there is no passage of the Gospel that has made a deeper impression on me or changed my life more than this one: "Whatever you do to one of these little ones, you do it to me." If we think of it, that these are the words of Uncreated Truth, words from the mouth that said, "This is my body... this is my blood..." then how forcefully we are impelled to seek Jesus and love him in the "little ones".

We should hold everyone in high esteem.We should love all humankind for they are children of God. God wants his children to love one another in the same way as a loving father wants his sons to love each other. Let us love all human beings because they are our brothers and sisters; God wants us to look at them tenderly and love them just as they are, because each is a child of God, who is beloved and adored; Our Lord paid the price for their love with his blood.

We are all children of the Most High. All of us: the poorest, the most outcast, a newborn child, a decrepit old person, the least intelligent human being, the most abject, an idiot, a fool, a sometimes sinner, the greatest sinner, the most ignorant, the last of the last, the one most physically and morally repugnant - all children of God and sons and daughters of the Most High. We should hold all human beings in high esteem. We should love all humankind, for they are all children of God.

Be kind and compassionate and do not be insensitive to any misery. See Jesus in all people...

Wouldn't it be better to go to the Holy Land? No. A single soul is worth more than all the Holy Land and the rest of inanimate creation along with it. I must go not where the ground is most sanctified but where the souls are in the greatest need.
